Now depending on what you think a good iron should do, this could go either way. It does make your hair straight. But I believe a GOOD iron will not give of a foul burning smell that stays in your hair all day (making you wish you hadn’t straightened it). I also believe that a GOOD iron will not start shedding its lining to reveal metal plates under its "ceramic" coating. I also believe a GOOD iron should not start burning and eating your hair because the parts where the "ceramic" coating burned off have nothing to make your hair glide through the iron anymore so your hair just sticks. My old stylist used this iron on my hair and I thought it was fine until I bought my own and started using it almost everyday for about a week and a half at a time (I give my hair and the iron about a 2 week break because it is natural, and I like my fro :P). After less than 2 months the coating started wearing off. I bought it in January 2006. I thought the burning smell was coming from the products i was using on my hair until my new stylist used those products on my hair and used a CHI iron which didn't make that smell at all. She said she knew the iron i was using and it was actually burning my hair. I had my hair trimmed 4 weeks ago and now i have split ends because this particular iron has been burning my hair. I have thick, nappy, african hair(from ghana) which after washing, I blow dry straight before I flat iron. When i use this iron, my hair really looks like i have come straight from the salon with a fresh, virgin relaxer but I can say that is due to my own skills. That is the only decent thing about this iron but i believe any other GOOD iron can do that WITHOUT the damage this iron is causing. If you don’t mind your hair getting damaged then go on ahead and buy this iron. I read the reviews before buying this and a lot of girls said “oh it has a warranty if it breaks!” But other people said their hair was getting caught and other horrible things. I thought maybe people didn’t know how to use it right and I thought that maybe people didn’t know what they were talking about but now I really wish I had just spent the money on a better iron because now after growing my nappy hair which some of you know how long it takes African American women to grow out their hair, I have to get it cut again because of the damage this iron caused. Right now I am researching Chi, FHI, and HAI irons and trying to pick between them. If anyone can help me, please email me at amitukiyasha@hotmail.com or agentdouble0negro@hotmail.com. I hope this review helps people out there. Seriously guys, DO NOT buy a HOT TOOLS iron. They are cheap and you get exactly what you pay for. Who would even want the warranty if the iron sux anyway? But Hot Tools is good for something. I have a blow dryer from them and I love it. For the time being that is. :) |
